Face yoga gently stretches facial muscles and encourages circulation to keep skin tight and healthy.
Stretching and activating muscles with easy face yoga gets blood moving through the muscles as well as throughout layers of skin. Blood flows through skin at deeper levels, transporting oxygen and other nutrients which are vital for cell health and regeneration, but these nutrients don't always make their way to the outside layers of skin. Think of circulation in your skin in the same was as a body of water - stagnant water becomes dirty and stinky overtime, whereas moving bodies of water are fresh and full of life. Our skin receives important nutrients internally and externally, so if you are not feeding your skin on the outside, and not getting good circulation on the inside, well, your skin is gonna be hungry! Skin that is tired, worn, and lacking nutrients ages more quickly, showing fine lines and wrinkles early due to reduced collagen formation and low nutrient levels. Encouraging circulation by exfoliation or stimulation is an easy way to maintain healthy skin by just encouraging consistent flow of fresh nutrients and oxygen throughout the layers of skin. These vitamins, minerals, and other benefits are needed for skin to reproduce new cells to replace old, damaged cells, to keep skin looking young, so don't underestimate 'em!
These easy face yoga exercises will help build stronger face muscles as well to keep skin toned and tight. Use a good non-comedogenic face oil for a smooth glide if you'll be using your hands to massage your skin for additional stimulation.
I do these face yoga exercises for 5-20 seconds in the video below, but you can adjust the length of time to suit your schedule and needs.
-gently stretch neck from side to side.
-open eyes wide and raise eyebrows without wrinkling forehead.
-tap along cheekbones.
-apply gentle pressure from bridge of the nose, along cheekbones, up to the sides of your forehead.
-wrinkle your nose like a bunny and apply pressure on cheeks where you feel movement.
-suck in your cheeks like a fish and lift cheeks by trying to smile.
-pucker your lips and look up.
-keep your lips puckered like a kiss and stick out your tongue!
-trace your "smile lines" on the inside of your cheeks with your tongue.
-fill cheeks with air and swish from side to side.
-make the biggest, creepiest smile you can possibly make! hold and release
-and have a great day!
