Who's got dark spots?? We've all got dark spots!
Really though, it's what I get asked about, hands down, more than anything. Dark spots are something that often come with time, sun exposure, our genetics, or even diet and health. So...pretty much just being alive can result in you getting some small discolorations on your skin.
If they're really bothering you, there are lots of natural tips you can try to reverse the hyper pigmentation or to fade dark spots without putting anything scary on your skin. You can search my blog archives for tips and ingredients, or give one of these five essential oils a try.
My favorite way to use essential oils for this kind of thing is just to dilute them in a good-for-your-face carrier oil. If you're using it elsewhere on your body, you don't need to be so concerned with the comedogenic (pore-clogging) rating of the oil, but for your face, you'll want to stick to something lighter that won't cause further disruption on your skin.
Add 1-2 drops of an essential oil to your favorite face (or body) oil for a spot treatment application, or just add them straight into your bottle so it's ready to go every time you use it. A good ratio is about 8-12 drops per ounce of face oil depending on skin sensitivity. Do keep in mind that some oils, especially those in the citrus category, can cause photo-sensitivity. This means they can make your skin a little more likely to be damaged by the sun, so try to use the oils at night if possible.
Most of these oils have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties too which is pretty great!
