Coconut water has been the natural beverage king for a long time, but there’s another drink I recently tried that might actually be better for you. I’m new to the party, but I finally tried prickly pear water. I’ve had a few different kinds by the brand Steaz, an organic and fair-trade beverage company with a couple different flavor options (like Prickly Pear Cucumber & Green Tea, others listed below). Also known as cactus water, prickly pear water has a ton of health and hydrating benefits. It’s low in sugar, and it has a clean, refreshing, berry-like taste that isn’t overpowering, especially when compared to the taste of coconut water.
So another fun thing that happened when my hair started thinning from insomnia/stress/medication is that my scalp got pretty flaky. Like, I would stand over the sink and scratch the crap out of my scalp watching the dead skin snowflake all over my sink. It's kind of annoying, but thankfully there are a few ways you can try to take care of those flakes with natural remedies. It's important to note that dry flaky scalp and dandruff are different. so it might help to know which you've got. Dry scalp is what it sounds like - itchy, dry skin. Dandruff is actually from your scalp overproducing oil, and you get waxy, oily flakes.
Sometimes I notice a lot of tension in my body when I'm trying to fall back asleep. I'll realize my neck is twisted weird or my shoulder is uncomfortable, and I'm not sure why I lay in those positions for so long. Since waking up and trying to go back to sleep is pretty much a nightly thing for me, I try to be mindful of how my body feels every time I'm doing the back-to-sleep thing, and try to adjust myself into a more comfortable, relaxed position.
My thoughts on CBD? I'm a believer. If you aren't familiar, CBD is the non-druggy component of marijuana. It doesn't really have any effects you would notice, like feeling high or having any hallucinations. The benefits of CBD are more along the lines of helping you internally without you really realizing it.
There are a ton of known benefits to using CBD for all kinds of medical problems, even for heavy things like calming seizures. CBD can help you sleep better too, and you don't need to smoke anything to get it. You can get it in pills or tinctures that you can take or ingest with food.
ADAPTOGEN WHAT!?! Seems like everything has mushroom in it right now. Finally they are getting the attention they deserve! Mushrooms are really really good for you, if you didn't know, and there are different kinds with different benefits. Now there's all this adaptogen talk with mushrooms and what even is that.... So here we go.... Mushrooms are packed with anti-cancer benefits, and nutrients for internal and external health. They can be anti-tumor, boost your immune system, and can lower cholesterol and blood glucose levels. Fiber in mushrooms may even help boost healthy gut bacteria to aid digestion. They can help improve circulation for better skin health, slow free radical damage, plus they have lots of Vitamin D for environmental protection.
