DIY Homeamade Body Scrubs
Three easy DIY pantry scrubs made from handy pantry ingredients.
If you're looking for a solution for dry, rough, or dull skin, look no further than your own pantry. Try homemade scrubs with handy ingredients like ground sugar, coconut flake, or used coffee grounds to easily remove dead skin cells and refresh the surface of skin.
These pantry ingredients can be mixed with body oils for a conditioning rub down, made fresh and quick, right when you need it. Making scrubs at home, fresh, means they don't require any preservatives, emulsifiers, or other fillers that you might find in typical store-bought body scrubs. Used coffee grounds are an easy solution if ground fine enough, so those are a great option if you are looking to just remove dead skin without any added conditioning properties. If you're a coffee drinker, they are likely also the easiest and most convenient pantry product to use (they are my personal favorite!), as your probably already have them fresh from the morning. Coffee beans naturally contain caffeine which can give skin a more even, toned appearance (great for areas with cellulite), plus they have damage-fighting antioxidants. If you'd like a more conditioning scrub, just add a few drops of your favorite body oil, rub hands together, and exfoliate. You can leave the scrub on your skin for a few minutes to let benefits like antioxidants and circulation-stimulating properties.

Coconut flake is a great option as a homemade scrub for dry or sensitive skin, as it has natural coconut oil inside the coconut meat with conditioning properties and B-vitamins that are essential for healthy, youthful skin. Coconut flake is also very soft and gentle, so a great choice for sensitive spots or skin that is easily irritated.

Sugar is another great choice if you are looking for an easy, affordable exfoliation, though you will likely need to mix your sugar (and coconut flake) with a body oil to use it effectively to remove dead skin. These ingredients, unlike  the brewed coffee beans, won't naturally pack together quite so well, so you'll have a bit of "fall off" when doing your exfoliation. Not to worry - just apply in the bathtub or over a towel to prevent a following cleaning session. :) All three of these pantry ingredients can be processed in a coffee grinder (before wetting) to make the particles as small and gentle as needed.
Gentle, daily exfoliation is an easy way to take care of your skin, removing dead skin cells and encouraging circulation. On a side note, many commercial scrubs that you'll find on store shelves are made with plastic micro-beads that can have a negative environmental impact on things like marine like and agriculture. These homemade scrubs are an easy way to scrub safely without worrying about what's heading down your drain!
If you want scrubs with even more real ingredients, check out our Fresh Scrub section - we've got one made with coffee beans and one made with winery grape seeds.
